Urban Design Features 2 (November 9, 2009):

 

The street cross section itself can improve the look and feel of the area, using trees, landscaped medians, and similar features, again making it more attractive to visitors.

 

Street lighting fixtures can help dress the area, particularly for evening and night time visitors, both enhancing traffic safety and pedestrian comfort.

 

 

Sidewalk treatments are a common element used to make otherwise broad stretches of white concrete more visually appealing.

 

Similarly street furnishings, from benches to bike racks, can provide not only improved utility for users but can be attractive enhancements to invite people to stay and shop, or to enjoy the park.
