Water Division
The City of Kelso operates a water distribution system that includes
63.4 miles
of water pipe, 7 pump stations, 8 reservoirs, 400 fire hydrants,
1400 valves, and
4 pressure zones. In addition to maintenance and repair of these
assets, the
Department addresses and completes Citizen Concern Forms, receives
and
completes service orders from Finance, responds to emergency turn
on/turn off
responds to reports of water line breaks, and assists other Public
Works
Departments when requested. In addition to these routine duties,
the Water
Department has completed the following:
-Accomplishments in 2006 -
Replaced (2) 2 inch dead end water lines with 192 feet of new
6 inch PVC water
main and installed 8 new services at N. Burcham/20th.
Installed 120 feet of new 6 inch PVC water main and installed
3 new services to
alleviate a long-term low-pressure area on NW 7th Street.
Installed 9 new one inch services to 6 inch water main across
the street ( 60')
and terminated old 1 1/2'" line they were connected to which
allowed us to
eliminate another long-term low-pressure area on the 1400 block
of Bowmont
Street.
Replaced 79 water meters.
Pressure washed, primed, and painted 4 water reservoirs.
Developed Standard Operating Procedure for 7 water pump stations.
-Accomplishments in 2005 -
Painted 400+ of the City's Fire Hydrants sunshine yellow.
Pressure washed, primed, and painted 7 Water pump stations.
Replaced small water main on Canaan Court with individual services
to each
of 3 homes.
Piped Well to Coweeman River Dike and over Dike to within 10 feet
of River.
Installed 6" water meter on City well to record flow during
pumping phase.
Created preventative maintenance programs for reservoirs & pumping
stations.
Sewer Division
The City of Kelso operates a wastewater collection system that
consists of 52
miles of pipe, 11 pump stations, and approximately 374 manholes.
All sewage
collected is transported through this system to a regional treatment
facility. In
addition to maintenance, repair, and operation of these facilities
the department
provides daily checks to all pump stations during the week. Water
Treatment
Plant staff checks the 4 large pump stations on the week ends. The
department
also completed the following tasks:
- In 2006 -
Replaced 300+ feet of Sanitary Sewer main line and installed 9
new cleanouts
on Coweeman Lane.
Repaired sewer line and laterals on North 7th before overlay project
started.
Flushed slow moving and grease plugged sewers.
- In 2005 -
Installed Rp Backflow Preventer at Mt. Brynion Sewer Pump Station
Installed Rp Backflow Preventer at Upper Banyon Sewer Pump Station.
Repaired Sewage Pump Station plumbing at Stan Rister Stadium.
Pressure washed, primed and painted 9 sewer pump stations
