Job Description: 

The city of Kelso is the county seat for Cowlitz County, located in Southwestern Washington.  Kelso is located on interstate 5, at the confluence of the Cowlitz, Coweeman and Columbia Rivers.  Kelso is 48 miles north of Portland, OR and 125 miles south of Seattle, and only 80 miles east of the Pacific Ocean.

Basic Responsibilities:

Under supervision of the Utility Operations Manager or designated lead, performs skilled labor in support of the construction and maintenance of the Water Distribution and Sewer Collection systems to contribute to their safety and functionality.  Subject to work after hours and weekends as required.  Subject to 24-hour call back for emergency conditions.

 

Requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. Experience: Prefer one year in a water/sewer construction environment and/or one year in water treatment plant operation and maintenance or equivalent. Certifications and Licenses: Flagging certification (to be secured within 90 days of hire), Washington State motor vehicle license with a Class “A” or “B”, airbrakes and tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment at employees expense, Labor and Industries First Aid Card with cardio-pulmonary certification (to be secured within 90 days of hire). Specific job assignments may require Washington State DOH Water Distribution Manage 1 certification and WWCPA Wastewater Collection 1 or ability to obtain Washington State DOH Water Treatment Plant Operator 2 certifications (within 3 years).
